WE ARE THE HILKERS
I’m Katherine Hilker and my love of photography started, interestingly enough, with my mother. Having said this, you might think that my mother was some sort of brilliant photographer or photo enthusiast, but not so. My mom knows nothing about ISO or apertures, but on a whim she bought a new fancy camera for herself while I was in high school.
My mom’s fancy new camera quickly became my fancy new camera. Commandeering it on weekends, I would go out with my friends and do mini-photoshoots at different outdoor locations. I loved capturing a friend at just the right moment – with the perfect lighting or in the middle of a candid laugh. That was the start of my modest photography hobby and career.
To me, photography is all about helping other people realize – realize the beauty around them, realize the beauty in themselves, realize that there are small moments everyday that deserve to be enjoyed and remembered. Realizing that those tree leaves or that kid sitting on the curb are miracles can be hard, but that’s what I want my photography to do.
